  • Evaluation of the quality element “continuity” per surface water body

  • The concept of aquatic habitat connectivity is based on the migration of aquatic species from habitats presenting favorable local conditions to habitats presenting less favorable habitats. Based on the structural quality mapping carried out in 2013-2014 and the planning conditions and restrictions, the watercourse network of the luxemburgish surface water bodies was divided into six categories of functional elements.

  • The chemical status of the surface water bodies is assessed as being good or failing to achieve good chemical status. The assessment of the chemical status for the second river basin management plan is based on the list of substances of directive 2008/105/EC as well as its environmental quality standards. The assessment without the ubiquist substances permita to get a differentiated picture of the actual situation.

  • The quiet areas in rural areas include large, cohesive and intact open spaces of supraregional importance with a high recreational function and corresponding development for leisure and recreation. These spacious areas allow for example extensive walks without crossing noisy areas.

  • The chemical status of the surface water bodies is assessed as being good or failing to achieve good chemical status. The assessment of the chemical status for the second river basin management plan is based on the list of substances of directive 2008/105/EC and the environmental quality standards established by the new directive 2013/39/EC.

  • The hydromorphological status was determined by a monitoring compliant with the Water Framework Directive (Directive 2000/60/EU). The elaboration of a structural quality mapping is one part of this monitoring. Within the scope of the work on the structural quality mapping, a total of 31 parameters in the area of the river bed, the river bank and the floodplain are assessed so that the structural quality mapping contains detailed information on the river morphology and the river continuity. In this case, the evaluation of the mapped sections is based on five classes. The areas river bed, left river bank, right riverbank, left floodplain and right floodplain are represented in 5 strips.

  • In 2018, the environmental administration organised a nationwide air quality measurement campaign in collaboration with 36 participating municipalities and myenergy. More specifically, it is a national measurement campaign of NO2 by passive tubes in the context of the national air quality program and the "Klimapakt Loftqualitéit". The campaign aims to raise awareness and inform municipalities and their inhabitants about the air quality in their respective municipalities, motivate municipalities to contribute to improving their air quality, and demonstrate the efforts undertaken by municipalities for future communications.

  • The relatively quiet urban oases include public green areas and open spaces with a high quality of living space and an appropriate design as compensation areas within walking distance of residential and work locations. Due to their inner-city location, they do not, or do not completely, meet the above-mentioned criteria of a quiet area, e. g. by showing an increased noise level or being significantly lower. However, the urban planning context of the areas has noise-reducing properties, which lead to the fact that the urban oases in their core areas are considerably calmer than their surroundings. These areas make it possible, for example, to take short walks for those seeking peace and quietness in the immediate vicinity of their homes or workplaces.
